Overview.

Waste Wise is an application designed to reduce food waste in landfill and to limit the amount of unsustainable meat consumed. The application is designed for households to help local meat producers, and vice versa.

Research.

Understanding the use of food waste and meat consumption from both users and consumers of meat was key to this project to gain an understanding of different perceptions. Secondary research was the start of the project, finding alarming statistics was the driving force of this project.

Primary research, interviews, provided deeper insights into how people respond to tackling food waste and meat consumption.

Tackling food waste and meat consumption will aim to bring down greenhouse gas emissions produced within the food industry.

Problem Statement.

As a nation, we eat too much meat, which plays a significant role in climate change. Each household also produces a significant amount of household waste, most of which could be composted and there aren’t enough food collection services available.

People aren’t aware of the local sustainable meat producers near them and farmers want to be more sustainable but help need to feed their animals.

Vision to Visual.

From user journey maps to wireframe drawings, these low fidelity wireframes were developed with various stages of iterations mapping out the core functions of waste wise for both a consumer and producer.

The Design.

Producer.

With high-fidelity wireframes, I introduced these key features for the producer app:

  • Grass Nutrition

    To help farmers better their grass nutrition for their livestock.

  • Field Management

    Enables farmers to see which parts of the field have the best nutrition based on grazing locations.

  • Food Waste Collection

    Farmers collect food waste from their local community for compost to enrich their fields.

  • Meat Box Orders

    Farmers can sell their produce to the local community through meat box delivery system, promoting the community to buy directly reducing their carbon footprint

The Design.

Consumer.

With high-fidelity wireframes, I introduced these key features for the consumer app:

  • Food Waste Collection

    Individuals are encouraged to collect food waste to be used and collected by their local farmers to use to increase soil fertility, reducing food waste in landfills.

  • Meat Credits

    An incentive to get households to collect their food waste for farmers to use.

  • Recipes

    Meat credits will earn consumers recipes, which encourages users to eat vegetarian or use better ingredients for the environment

  • Discounts

    Consumers will earn discounts by collecting meat credits, the discounts are to be used with their local butchers.

  • Meat Box Orders

    Allows consumers to deliver sustainable meat produce to consumers.

Hologram.

Say goodbye to messy cookbooks and endless scrolling through recipes on your phone – with the hologram recipe display, users can cook sustainable recipes they have earned within the Waste Wise app and display them on their kitchen walls for easy while cooking.

Beef Box

The beef box is a concept developed for producers to deliver their sustainable meat produce to consumers door steps.

Food Waste Box

To link the project together, the food waste box is for consumers to collect food waste for it to be easily picked up and used by producers.
